Futurismo en el frente: el vanguardismo italiano y la Gran Guerra

Resumen

Luego de cinco años de elogiar efusivamente las virtudes de la guerra, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti y la mayoría de sus seguidores futuristas aclamaron con entusiasmo el estallido del conflicto. Aunque los futuristas son catalogados a menudo como actores influyentes en la campaña por la intervención italiana, consideramos que sus acciones durante la neutralidad de Italia carecieron de un real peso político. Este artículo examina, además, la participación del vanguardismo en el esfuerzo bélico italiano, tanto en los campos de batalla como en el frente interno. Durante los años de la guerra, Marinetti intentó ampliar el número de espectadores del futurismo, priorizando la accesibilidad del arte y el teatro patrióticos por sobre la experimentación estilística y apuntando al público militar. Marinetti, además, procuró capitalizar el nuevo respeto que recibió de la prensa y del público, derivado del estatus que los futuristas habían alcanzado como soldados activos y veteranos.
