Abstract

The Junta de la Victoria (1941-1947) was a female antifascist organization that promoted democracy and sent aid to the Allies during World War II. Supported by the Communist Party, it became the largest women’s political group before Juan Perón’s presidency (1946-1955). It mobilized thousands of women of different classes, ethnicities, religions, political perspectives, and regions. Through the making of clothing and other concrete activities, and the use of symbols such as the V for victory, the Junta spread antifascism and made it attractive to a huge number of persons. The Junta’s specific contribution to the struggle against fascism was its attempt to democratize the political system through the incorporation of diverse women, as well as the modeling of egalitarian civic practices and the popularization of its message.
