Abstract

Historians agree that it was in second half of the XIX Century, parallel to the process of construction of the State-Nation, when the idea of a preexistent nation associated to the model of a national identity was formed. Our intention is not to discuss the origin of nation again but to restore the context of historic and political debate in which the tesis of its preexistence was developed, during the Buenos Aires state secession. During the controversy by the rejection of the Acuerdo de San Nicolás and the sanction of the Buenos Aires Constitution in 1854, interpretations were formed about a nation with the same criteria of a pact used during the debate about the sovereignty since 1810.
