Immigration to Argentina is a well-developed field of research. However, there is little information concerning foreigners and their social insertion in Buenos Aires during the first half of the nineteenth century. The Scottish immigrants have been a subject of little historical research until now, although they emigrated in significant numbers during the 1820s. Their presence in the City of Buenos Aires acquires visibility in the 1830s with the building of a place of worship and a school, under the control and supervision of a Scottish Presbyterian minister. This article will study the incorporation of these foreigners into the social fabric of Buenos Aires during the first half of the nineteenth century, through the case study of the St. Andrew’s Scotch School.
