Abstract

Born like Héctor Roberto Chavero (Pergamino, 1908-Nimes,1992), Atahualpa Yupanqui was the greatest musician and poet of the argentine folk song. The corpus ofhis artistic production occupies a central place of the XX Century  ́s argentine culture, and is well known in other countries of Latin America and in France, where he used to live during more than 20 years. The author of these notes reflects about the difficulties and challenges that he had to overcome when he decided to write a biography of a character so “public” but also a little secret; iconic and evasive in the same time. Against the popular sentence of Yupanqui about de art of biography – “a poet has no biography; his entire life lives in his works -, this paper tries to decipher Yupanqui  ́s process of construction an implicit autobiography in his songs and oral and written texts.
