Abstract

This article deals with the analysis and description of the ecological transformations which took place at the Pampa prairies of the SW of Buenos Aires province due to the development of the cattle raising activities carried out by the native Indians during the 2nd half of the XVIII and the beginning of the XIX centuries. The analysis focuses mainly on how the native Indians modified the environment to make it more productive for the development of the cattle raising and keeping activities. The development of this process required the application of several species selection and manipulation techniques, together with the control of the physical environment.
