Abstract

This paper focuses on the processes of territorial mobility of indigenous population in La Pampa towards the mid 20th century, specifically between the decades of 1940-1970, when the biggest amount of migrations is verified. Firstly, a series of theoretical and methodological considerations are made concerning migratory processes. Secondly, we describe general conditions that would have caused an exodus of the indigenous populations from the departments of the West of La Pampa towards localities of the East, especially since the advance of private and state control over lands occupied by indigenous population, and the desertification of the zone as a result of the decrease in river Chadileuvú waters due to the cutting of one of its main tributaries, the Atuel river. In the third part cycles of circulation and migration and its characteristics, are analyzed on the basis of a quantitative study based on nominative sources.
