Wine Production, Uruguay, Wine Companies, Technological ChangeAbstract
Son of a Spanish immigrant, Diego Pons was one of the pioneers of wine culture in Uruguay. For a long period of time his enterprise could incorporate technology to produce wine of high quality. But since the 1930s, the wine cellars business began to decline until the cellars were sold in 1944, few months before the founder’s death. This work analyses the development, rise and fall of this enterprise, and it is focused on the entrepreneurial practices, the technical changes and the market organization.
