Abstract

The point of blood purity was used within the territories of the Hispanic Monarchy as a powerful argument to classify individuals and groups within the social elites. In early modern times this argument to order the elite hierarchy did not have the same social support in different moments. The Inquisition courts became increasingly the basic instruments to deal with all those matters and analyze both the changes of criteria for the certifying about purity of blood and the efficiency related to this argument of social classification within the urban elites.
