Abstract

The iconography of historical cities itself is a point of historical research with different explanations because every art representation of a city was produced due to diverse factors and had quite various meanings. There were many ingredients that had an effect on the cityscape and also affected to the urban formalized representation in a draw, engraving or picture. In spite of this, still the urban archetypes historically developed give general features on specific urban patterns and shapes. That is what happens, for example, with the Spanish Atlantic port cities in between the 16 and 19 centuries studied in this article.
