Iglesia y república liberal en Buenos Aires de mediados del siglo XIX. El Nacional y La Religión: duelo de plumas en torno a la memoria de Saturnino Segurola, 1776-1854

Abstract

Two paradigmatic newspapers of confronted positions towards the place of the church in the political spectre during the last half of the nineteen century -"El Nacional" y "La Religión" - were in agreement when vindicating Saturnino Segurola's memory, publishing two obituarios sorne days after his demise. The analysis of these two funerary praises avoids the traditional historiography frainework, making non-conventional sources a means to examine little known arguments· in the discrepancies and agreements that sustained the dispute.
