Dificultades y desvelos de un estado interventor. Instituciones, salud y sociedad en el interior argentino. La Pampa, 1930-1946

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of health institutions, and their re!ationship with the State and civil society in the Argentina hinterland (specifically, in La Pampa), from 1930 to 1946. Hea1th po1icies, implemented during authoritarian territorial governments, were based on the management of national resources, and on the abundance of advertising concerning a series of achievements as ·their own acquisitions to legítimate oficial discourse. The main institutions emerged from an official concem to alleviate the consequences of economic and demographic crises, and they can be represented in the development of a health statistics, in the attempt to plan a coordinated system ofhospitals, and in campaigns for elementary care in rural areas and wíthin the most impoverished neighbourhoods in the capital city ofthe terrítory. Such politics, linked much more to burocratic control rather than budgetary increasing, did not manage to cover the whole population which, in sorne cases, depended increasingly upon prívate health care systems; though differently from previous periods.
