Abstract

Between the Natives of Pampas and Araucanía, like in all human society, the celebrations –denominated convites or cahuines- constituted opportunities to cany out an abundant one and prolonged ritual consurhption of meals and drinks, constantly reiterated throughout the year with different specific aims. This article, besides to establish a classification of convites, the hosts and guests, and to advance on the characteristics ofthe staptes and the necessmy manual labor for its organization, offers an explanation that ties them with the exercise of the power and the altematives of the political processes which they took place in the region, individual but not exclusively during century XVIII.
