Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the diagnoses, opinions and debates that have arisen in the Catholic field after the Revolución Libertadora (1955). We depart from the idea that such field was going through a deep transformation in relation to previous decades, where, despite de conflicts, the catholic identity was itself the watershed with those found outside such field. On the other hand, the conflict with the Peronism showed the first structural authority crisis in the heart ofthe Argentine Church, mainly as regards the relationship between the hierarchy with the clergy and the Jay and whose dramatic derivations would spark off after Vatican Council II. We are interested in answering, especially, in which way the Catholicisrn faced the dilemma that troubled the Argentine society post-55: How would the Peronism issue be solved? We will focus mainly on the political positions taken by the hierarchy, the leaders and the catholic lays, as well as their definitions as regards the strategies ofreinsertion in the labour work, undoubtedly transformed after the Peronist experience.
