Abstract

The aim of this paper is to introduce us lo the railroad labor routine and to analyze how it was affected by the confrontations between enterprises and workmen in conflíctive situations. We will centre our attention on the first two decades of the 20th century, restricting the analysis to Rosario and its surroundings, and to one particular company: Central Argentine Railway. We consider that this enterprise applied, until the second decade of the 20th century, at least, strategies to manage labor which included paternalistic practices directed to break off soiidarity between workers and to replace it which vertical and enterprise identification bonds.
