Mestizaje: arqueología de un arquetipo de la mexicanidad
Keywords:
Miscegenation, National Identity, Mexican IdiosyncrasyAbstract
The miscegenation, like one ofthe conceptual axes that articulate the national identity in Mexico, is a modern invention. That is, throughout the years 1850-1950mestizaje are distinguished fundamentally by the semantic displacement ofthe racially mixed word mestizo, own of the colonial period. This change marks the transformation of a socio-racial accident in the essence ofthe collective identity of a people. The emergency ofthe mestization as essence ofthemexicanidadwere constructed in Mexico during second half of 19th century, and implied the devaluation and imprisonment ofthe indigenous populations. The notion ofmestization will not designate exclusively the essence of the mexicanidad already, but will aspire to represent the latinoamericanidad.
