Abstract

Since 70's, Brazil, inserted in a movement that encloses all Latin America, knows deep changes in the perception and the reelaboration of its national identity. The bigger"African" nation ofthe world after Nigéria, Brazil discovers its African roots, denied during much time. The article tries to reconstitute the stages of this long march ofthe Brazilian "africanidade" since independence until the recent and controverted measures of affirmative action.
