Abstract

The social and cultural character of the discussions that occurred in the Cabildo of Santa Fe between 1573 and 1660, on the extension of one legua, the fixation of the price of a cow, the criteria of amojonamiento or the relation between the price and the weight o fa bread piece, allows to appreciate the importance of these discussions in the process ofconstitution of a type ofpolitical power in the local range. The Cabildo was the arena where the neighbors of the city recrcated a political body in order to strengthen their capacity to control the area which they territorialized and, mainly, to be part ofa greater political unit, than he granted sense and whose expansion they contributed to realize. They bequcathed registrics that allow us to appreciate the way in which they were hicrarchizing his own resources, assigning lo them value and creating equivalences.
