El mundo del fiado. Crédito, comerciantes y productores rurales, 1900-1929

Abstract

The rural stores houses, called in Argentina «almacenes de ramos generales», played an important role, channeling part of the production toward the port and providing inputs, machinery, capital but also clothes and dry canned food to rural producers. This article seeks to analyze not only the role of rural retailen; as financial intermediarios but al so the characteristics of the credit markets in La Pampa Territory during the first decades of the 20th century. lt tries to analyze the different typcs of credit, their uses and methods of payments, in relation with the sea le and productive profiles of rural clients. The possibility of working with account books and commercial letters from merchants, as well as broader primary sources, have allowed to carry out an empirical study of the historical nature of different typcs of credít and the relationship between lenders and borrowers, retailers and rural producers in La Pampa.
