Las bases agrarias de la dominación de la élite: tenencia de tierras y sociedad en Jujuy a mediados del siglo XIX

Abstract

This paper is aimed at studying the bases of élite power in a provincial setting in northern Argentina (Jujuy) at mid-nineteenth century. lt deals with agrarian structures and society based on the 1855 provincial land survey crossed with data collected from the 1851 provincial census. The study of the élite domination in this largely agrarian society allows to identify the foundations of rural order in Jujuy's countrysidc. The order estahlished by the élite around 1840 lasted until the middle of the following century.
