Abstract

This article explores the performance and the dissolution of two viniculture firms which had boost wine’s market in XX century: the state-owned company Bodegas y Viñedos Giol and the firms controlled by Greco’s group. In this comparative study, we examine the conditions of business failure, distinguishing different levels of analysis: the incidence of political and institutional background in the collapse of firms, the situation of viniculture during the crisis of the model of massive production and wine consumption, and the managerial strategies of the firms.
